Established in 1979, Friendicoes is the oldest animal hospital and shelter in Delhi. It has been working for the welfare of animals in distress for over 35 years. Founded by a group of animal lovers, whose dedicated and pioneering efforts in rescuing and rehabilitating animals has made Friendicoes a household name. The Helpline receives over 50 calls on an average every day. A Mobile equine clinic was Started in 1984 for work horses, mules and donkeys working at brick kilns, construction sites & tonga stands of Delhi. In 1993 Friendicoes started an Animal Birth Control program which has strengthened over the last 2 decades and now is one of the biggest in the country. The organization operates 7 Animal Birth Control centres including the city shelter in Delhi, the sanctuary in Gurgoan as well as an off shore program in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The city shelter is home to many abandoned pets, as well as stray Cats and dogs of the streets.
