Luíra is a violinist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music producer of primaeval folk music from the barren tundra of arctic Norway. With an expression preceding folk music, she explores new musical soundscapes where polyphony not only emerges from opposing musical elements, but also in the way the music crosses between different genres. While having a solid classical background as a prizewinning violinist, her spirituality comes to life through her Mongolian throat singing (khoomii), joiking & kulning. With an arctic heritage, Luíra has spent many years exploring the Sami joik, and as a founder of a metal band, growling is also deeply rooted into her music. In addition Luíra performs on various ancient, indigenous and folk instruments, such as her Sami framedrum, jaw harp, jouhikko, hardanger fiddle, knuckles and bones. Combining her unique skill set as a musician with a special expertise in musical styles, a distinct expression is created that only belongs to Luíra.
